All those sleepless nights...

Saw this report on the news. Looks like all you Docs or soon to be Docs and others in professions who work too many long days and nights without sleep are dangerous to our health. Maybe the hospitals will quit requiring marathon shifts.

More Hawaii Pics...

My oldest daughter, Leenie, posted some pictures on her website of our "kooky family" in Hawaii. Go here to see them. As a warning, older bodies exposed to sunlight esp. in a state of undress or having walked for hours in high humidity are not pretty. Also, the alien looking creature is Leenie dressed and ready to explore the coral reefs.
Enjoy! I hope to post a few more but I'm still moving a little slow. K. ;)

If you haven't heard...

That Anonymous College has a teensy, tiny little problem at the moment and could probably use some prayers. Perhaps a helicopter or some boats too! Go here for almost live pictures. God willing and the creek don't rise (more than it already has) we should hear from them in the morning. That's also assuming there isn't a riot from a cigarette shortage!
God bless you all and keep your feet dry and your chins up!!! Kitty

Good News Update: Some of the TAC islanders have made it into Santa Paula although in a round about way. Classes will resume on Monday!

Hotel in Maui...

Posted by Hello

Paradise or pretty close...

Maui was very beautiful even though we had a couple of days of rain. It also got pretty windy at times. But it didn't stop anyone from relaxing by the pool.
One of the fun places we visted in Lanai was the original "Cheeseburger in Paradise". Great cheeseburgers and fun staff in grass skirts. The story about 2 girls from CA who opened it was on the menu. They have them in lots of different places now and the waiter told us that they were just bought out by Outback Steakhouse so we'll probably see them popping up all over. Whatever happened to Mom and Pop places?
The 3 "boys" bought what they called "Aloha shirts" and I don't think they wore anything else the rest of the time, well, except for swimming suits. Shorts were proper attire for even the nicer restaurants and my feet loved being in flip flops.
The above picture was taken with my camera phone - from our balcony looking out across the pool and the ocean.

Happy New Year! Posted by Hello

The lights of New Year's Eve...

Forgot to say Happy New Year to everyone so I'm saying it now!
New Year's celebrations are bigger in Hawaii than Independence Day celebrations. The entire island was covered in a smoky fog and I was stopped at security while checking in to fly to Maui the next day because they detected TNT on my medic kit. Strange! But they let it pass because we had been in the middle of a huge block party surrounded by 1000's of large fireworks.
This particular display in the picture had over 100 fountain fireworks and was lit by my pyromaniac son, Mike, with a blow torch. Actually all of my kids were quite excited about the fireworks as they are not allowed on the 4th of July in NM because of the dry conditons we always have during that time of year.
We also were with a traditional Native Hawaiian family and although some of the food dishes were a little different, most were quite delicious. The best was the homemade Chicken soup made from the saved carcasses from Christmas. It was served as the first dish of the New Year and particularly good with a shot of Hawaiian Chili Pepper water. Just one of many wonderful times we had in Hawaii. More later, Kitty
