USS Utah

Posted by Hello
This ship is not on public display, but if you can get on base you can walk to it. There is a small memorial to the 58 men entombed in the ship. The families want to keep it the way it is and some of the men who were on the ship when it was bombed are cremated when they die and their ashed buried with their shipmates. It was blocking the channel after being bombed so the decision was to clear the channel by pushing the ship over to it's side. It's hard to see in the picture, but there is some kind of ivy and flowers growing out of the middle section of the ship. It's really very pretty and peaceful without all the tourist crowds.
